The YWCA of Lubbock is proud to announce the launch of its ABL Lab, is aimed at revolutionizing childhood development through the power of movement, this innovative lab is set to redefine the way children learn, grow, and thrive.
Our ABL Champion who Introduced Action Based Learning to YWCA Lubbock
With a rich background in Kinesiology and a passion for the transformative potential of movement, the Director of After School Programming, Tammy Schilling spearheaded the development of the Movement Lab. Drawing from over 19 years of experience in teacher education and physical education at the university level, Schillings recognized the profound impact that purposeful movement can have on cognitive, physical, and emotional development.
YWCA Lubbock Outreach
Situated within the YWCA's revamped facility, the Movement Lab boasts state-of-the-art equipment and meticulously crafted programming designed to engage young minds and bodies. Serving over 1,030 children across 27 school sites, the lab provides a dynamic space for exploration, learning, and growth.

How Action Based Learning Prepares Kids for School
From preschoolers mastering the art of balance and coordination to middle schoolers enhancing their cognitive function through movement-based learning, the ABL Lab caters to a diverse range of age groups and developmental needs. Activities such as Tabata workouts, rhythm and movement exercises, and sensory integration techniques provide children with the tools they need to excel academically, socially, and beyond.
