Pedal Desk Voted #1 Classroom Product

The Student Pedal Desk (Grades 3–5) is built for today’s classrooms, offering an ergonomic, adjustable workstation that supports learning through movement. It brings flexible seating to a new level by applying the science behind how the brain responds to light, steady activity during academic work.

Low-intensity steady-state movement, often called a flow state, is the most effective movement pattern for learning. The Pedal Desk is designed to gently increase blood flow and oxygen to the brain while supporting neurogenesis, the natural process of creating new brain cells that occurs when we move.

The adjustable tabletop and seat height support personalized learning, and the silent, non-distracting pedal base allows students to move, fidget, and stay alert without disrupting others. Schools can easily use this tool to meet the needs of all learners and support the whole child.

Movement is entirely user-powered. There is no resistance on elementary models, since added exertion can reduce the cognitive benefits of light movement. The Pedal Desk is intentionally designed for gentle, steady activity.

Educational Uses

CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION Students with pedals under their desk can work their legs in a motion similar to a bicycle, while participating in classroom discussion, or doing their classwork. The desk is user-powered, making movement optional! Although rare, students not interested in moving have the option to relax and listen in class!

PARTNER WORK While one child pedals, their partner stands on a balance board on the opposite side of the pedal desk.

ADD ACADEMICS Teachers use the pedal movement to engage students in countless activities! For example: Students answer questions during instruction by either pedaling forward, backward, pausing, speeding up, or slowing down pedaling!

MORNING WAKE UP - Start the morning off right with a brain booster! Have students warm-up their brains with a Walk & Talk session ( suggested classroom activities provided by author Shoecraft, Lengel, Moize in ABL Books & Manuals)

GO FULLY KINESTHETIC! Outfit an entire classroom with multiperson varsity pedal desks, and various movement stations (video below). Research indicates variety is KEY when implementing alternative seating and kinesthetic desks into an active classroom

OR START SMALL - start with 1 (5) varsity pedal desks into your classroom & implement rotation schedule for all students to benefit from the movement!

Single Pedal Desk [3-5th Grade] - Action Based Learning

About Our Pedal Desks

Our pedal desks are student-powered to promote Low-Intensity Steady State (LISS) movement. This level of activity optimizes blood flow and oxygen delivery to the brain and activates BDNF, which stimulates the growth of new brain cells without causing exhaustion.

  • Boosts Focus & Mood
  • Provides a healthy, silent outlet for fidgeting and restlessness.
