Custom Children's Therapy Space

Action Based Learning recently partnered with Brightside ABA Therapy in Florida to design and build a fully customized sensory gym that supports children’s indoor active play, motor development, and therapeutic growth. This project reflects the shared mission of both organizations: to create environments where children can learn, move, and thrive through meaningful, research-based experiences.

The process began with a collaborative design phase that brought together Brightside’s clinical team, an experienced occupational therapist, and our in-house graphic design and manufacturing specialists. Brightside provided insight into the functional needs of ABA therapy, while OT/PT input helped guide the layout, flow, and choice of equipment to ensure the space supported sensory regulation, motor coordination, and overall therapeutic success. From there, our team translated those goals into a fully realized sensory lab built specifically for children with diverse needs.

The finished gym includes a wide variety of engaging elements such as climbing walls, swings, balance pathways, tactile stations, and movement-based play zones. Each feature was intentionally selected to support the skill areas central to ABA therapy: communication, motor skills, sensory processing, social interaction, and play. By blending occupational therapy principles with Brightside’s data-driven ABA approach, the space encourages children to explore, practice new skills, and build confidence through active play.

Since opening the updated Riverview center, Brightside has seen a notable increase in family engagement and new enrollments, reflecting the growing demand for high-quality ABA services in the Tampa Bay region. Parents describe the sensory gym as welcoming, modern, and thoughtfully designed, while children now look forward to their therapy sessions with enthusiasm. The gym has become a cornerstone of the center’s programming, enhancing motivation, improving participation, and creating joyful opportunities for growth across all ages and ability levels.

This project serves as an exciting example of how intentional design and therapeutic collaboration can transform a space into a powerful tool for learning and development.
