Hearing and keeping a steady beat develops the internal dialogue - that little voice inside your head. This inner dialogue starts around 3-5 years old by hearing/listening to human voices (talk, sing, pitch).Internal dialogue is necessary for acquiring receptive and expressive language.
These concepts aid the brain in auditory discrimination by sounding out letter sounds and words in a receptive language and discriminating words in spoken language.
The minion movement chair is the answer for children's seating anywhere there's a wiggle and giggle. Designed with an anti-burst exercise ball, these chairs will put a little bounce in how every child sits. The ball is covered in mesh fabric and also includes a manual air pump.
Benefit of our Minion Movement Chairs:
Allows purposeful movement in a silent, non distracting environment
ABL manufactures classroom furniture designed to put the student’s brain into its most optimal learning state. All of our educational equipment has been created with neuroscience best practices in mind, which results in improved student performance, enhanced effectiveness of curricula, and children’s energy channeled toward learning.
ABL active learning and sensory equipment provides a non-distracting, silent way to allow children to move, fidget, wake their brains up and stay engaged and focused in the classroom. This makes it easy for schools to accommodate all learners, and keep the focus on serving the needs of the whole child. Action Based Learning aligns with the CDC framework for addressing health in schools, The Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child, or WSCC model. To learn more about the science behind movement and learning educational furniture, check out Action Based Learning Training Academy.
Benefits:
Increases student mood and engagement in the classroom
Improves student performance at school
Enhances effectiveness of all curricula
Channels student’s energy toward learning
Brain Based Movement:
Promotes low intensity steady state movement (LISS), crossing the midline, optimizes blood flow and oxygen to the brain, & activates BDNF, coined "Miracle Gro" for the brain by Dr. John Ratey. BDNF activates the brain in the process known as neurogenesis- the growth of new brain cells.
Pedal Desk Features:
Manufactured in the USA - Action Based Learning is the Manufacturer of the Original Pedal Desk. All Pedal Desks are steel welded and built for high frequency use in school settings. Desks are designed to hold up against even the most "active" students. Includes 10 yr direct from mfg extended warranty and factory direct discounts for schools.
Designed specifically for this age group to support proper posture and movement appropriate for elementary age students.
Ships Pre-Assembled
Silent, non distracting movement
Rear Foot Levelers can be adjusted for all floor types, and can accommodate uneven floors
Adjustable Seat Height and tabletop height
Tabletop lies flat for reading & writing in the classroom
Movement is user powered, there is no resistance on elementary pedal desks. Based on brain research, adding a certain level of exertion during the learning process can actually work to counteract the benefits of moving. The Pedal Desk for elementary students is designed to activate Low Intensity Steady State Movement (LISS). To learn more about LISS, view the Science and Research behind Action Based Learning)
Uses:
CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION Children with pedals under their desk can work their legs in a motion similar to a bicycle, while participating in classroom discussion, or doing their classwork. Desk is user powered, making movement optional! Although rare, students not interested in moving, have the option to relax and listen in class!
PARTNER WORK While one child pedals, their partner stands on a balance board on the opposite side of the pedal desk.
ADD ACADEMICS Teachers use the pedal movement to engage students in countless activities! For example: Students answer questions during instruction by either pedaling forward, backward, pausing, speeding up, or slowing down pedaling!
MORNING WAKE UP - Start the morning off right with a brain booster! Have students warm-up their brains with a Walk & Talk session ( suggested classroom activities provided by author Shoecraft, Lengel, Moize in ABL Books & Manuals)
GO FULLY KINESTHETIC! Outfit an entire classroom with multiperson pedal desks, and various movement stations (video below). Research indicates variety is KEY when implementing alternative seating and kinesthetic desks into an active classroom
OR START SMALL - start with 1 single pedal desk into your classroom & implement rotation schedule for all students to benefit from the movement!

ABL CALMING CART
Action Based Learning Mobile Carts offer schools more flexibility to implement Action Based Learning Strategies without compromising space and budget. Carts provide ABL equipment and support materials content specific for the elementary level to assist educators in integrating academics with purposeful movement.
The purpose of this cart is to provide tools for students in need of self regulation and to reset their emotional state. Students will eventually recognize which tools work best for them and when is a good time to use them.
This cart can be used as a whole class/group.Place the cones around your space where you will put the equipment and or materials. There are 10 cones, so you can have up to 10 stations. Feel free to add more as you need. Find the corresponding Station Cards and place them in the slot at the tip of the cone.Model the expectations and proper use for each station. Model how you will have the students rotate through the stations.Instructors can use the timers from the set the duration for the stations. Adjust the amount of time at each station according to how many stations there are, how much time you have, and if you want each child to get to every station. This could be anywhere between 1 and 3 minutes.
This cart can be stored in a classroom or a central location to share with other classrooms. After modeling the expected use of each activity, students can be directed to use the calming cart when they are demonstrating behavior that is escalating; (overly excited, frustrated, sad, angry, etc). This can be done by themselves or with the supervision of another adult.
Support materials provide over 120 Activities and 35+ tools and equipment stations on board the mobile classroom cart. The provided activities can be easily modified and adapted to provide hundreds of additional activities for students as they progress. Why are purposeful movement activities important?
Neuroscience shows the relationship between the brain and body plays a critical role in the child's overall development and ability to learn. Research shows practicing specific movements can strengthen these connections and improve reading, writing, memory tasks, and allow children to absorb and retain information more efficiently.
What types of purposeful movement activities are critical to learning?
There are 12 critical areas necessary for a child to develop in order to achieve their full academic potential. These are called the 12 Foundations of Learning Readiness:
1- Crossing the Midline - Cross Lateralization
2- Body in Space - Vestibular/Proprioception
3- Balance - Spatial Orientation
4- Visual Development - Encoding Symbols
5- Rhythm - Beat Awareness and Beat Competency
6- Tactile Learning- Sensory Motor and Fine Motor Skills
7- Motor Skills - Locomotor and Nonlocomotor Skills
